So, first off, I'm sorry I haven't written in a while, I've made it a new goal to try and get a post in at least once a week. Second of all, I'm starting a topical study journal. I'll be studying topics and I am starting with faith as that was the topic for my talk (never got to speak as I was sick, and still am :-( ) and now I'll start
I haven't finished this page, so I'll update it as I finish it, but here's what I got so far....
What is Faith?
Read--> Hebrews 11:1="Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
Read-->Alma 32:21="And now as I said concerning faith-faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true."
Read-->Alma 32:17-18="Yea, there are many who do say: if thou wil show unto us a sighn from hevan, then we shall believ. Now I ask, is this faith? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for if a man knoweth a thing he hath no cause to believe, for he knoweth it."
Think-->"Faith is a priniciple of action and power. Whenever you work toward a worth goal, you exercise faith. You show your hope for something that you cannot yet see." (Faith, True to the Faith.)
Think-->Faith is a hope. Not a belief, a knowledge.
Read/Listen-->"The Faith to Move Mountains" (Gordon B. Hinckley, October 2006 General Conference {Here's the link:http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2006/10/the-faith-to-move-mountains?lang=eng})
Think-->Brigham Young and Christopher Columbus are alike. Both led people to new lands that were unknown of, and were both led by God.
Think-->Joseph Smith had A LOT of faith as he went through trials and helped restore the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He and Emma had a lot of faith as they were injured and ridiculed by mobs, even worse, Emma's family rejected her for a while. B
Think--> Brigham Young, a new prophet, led ALL the saints willing to come to the Salt Lake Valley. Each pioneer went forward with faith. Each prophet has seen proof that members have faith as things have happened.
Think-->The Willie Handcart went through snow and were late. Mary Goble Pay, one of Gordon B. Hinckley's wife, and my ancestors. The Willie Handcart Company had it VERY rough. They started late, some were frozen to death, some were starved to death. Franklin Richards helped the Willie Handcart Company. When Brigham Young received note of the Willie Handcart Company, he sent aid to the Willie company. They were brought back and those who survived were grateful. Brigham Young sent mule teams, he sent horses and mules as oxen are SLOW and wouldn't help out the company very much. Brigham also sent lots of food such as wheat and flour. Two Hundred saints in the company died, but one thousand lived. Think-->Mary Goble Pay had frozen feet, but was given a blessing by Brigham Young and only her toes needed be amputated. (She had immense faith to wait until Brigham Young gave her a blessing)
Think-->Faith can be demonstrated in "small, but significat events"
